NSVAC MEMBERSHIP
We appreciate your interest in becoming a member of The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps. aka NSVAC. The following information will acquaint you with the basic requirements for membership. The NSVAC requires all prospective probationary members to complete a Professional Rescuer CPR course and an American Red Cross Basic First Aid course. Within a year of membership, certification as an EMT-B is required. This level of training will be reimbursed by the Corps.
In addition, a medical clearance that includes a full drug screen, a valid driver’s license, a driver’s abstract, and at least two years of driving experience is required to drive the ambulance. If you do not have the necessary driving experience, you may still join and perform all of the duties of a member, except driving, until you have the experience.
The NSVAC has both day and nighttime shifts. If you are interested in daytime, the requirements are two five hour shifts per week and twenty-four hours of weekend duty each month. If you cannot sign up for twenty-four hours of weekend duty each month then the daytime requirements are three five hour shifts per week. If you are interested in nighttime, the requirements are one nine-hour shift per week and twenty-four hours of weekend time per month. As with daytime, if you are not able to sign up for weekend time you may replace the weekend shift with one day shift per week in addition to the night. Other requirements include attendance at one monthly business meeting, one monthly training meeting, and two other holiday shifts.
Being a member of the NSVAC can be extremely rewarding and fulfilling experience. It is an excellent way to contribute to the good of the community.
